Saren Kast was born on Corellia to a family steeped in military tradition. Both of his parents served the Republic Army in varying capacities, and it was a role destined for Saren himself. He also had a sister named Virala; whom he cared for deeply. While his parents were away, it was always Virala who was there for him. From this young age, it was nurtured into Saren to rely on other people, which would later play in to his lack of bravery.

Once Saren’s parents had returned from their deployments in the Republic, he had recieved homeschooling from the two. His education consisted of war-training and tactics, rather then the standard. In the back of his mind, he knew that being a soldier was not his destiny in life. Although one would say he is “cocky”, Saren believed that there was a greater purpose for him in the galaxy.

In a curious turn of events, Saren’s latent force-sensitivity garnered the attention of one of the sparse Jedi Watchmen remaining on active duty. Although reluctant at first, Saren’s parents yielded to the Knight’s request, under the agreement that the young Kast would visit them some day. This led him to his arrival on the planet of Rannon.
