322.25 // Senate Representatives to meet Mandalorians

After several years of border skirmishes with pirates and even the Republics own Defense Forces, the Mandalorians finally seem willing to engage in diplomatic talks with members of the Republic Senate.

With Mandalorian patrols stretching further past the armistice line each month since the formal end to the war, the Senate issued a final warning last night, threatening a possible return to hostilities if Mandalorian naval forces continued to venture accross the border. Surprisingly the Mandalorians appear to have taken this to heart, withdrawing the greater majority of their patrols back within their own territories and requesting a ‘face-to-face meeting with someone who can speak for the Republic.’

Where this meeting will occur and when are not yet known and the location will undoubtedly be subject to intense to security once a date is decided. For now however it seems a return to war is looking less likely.

322.17 // Bespin Citizen Honors the Sacrifice of Jedi

e9at7c

It was nearly 80 standard years ago that the Jedi Temple of Bespin was demolished in order to placate citizens who were no longer willing to subsidize the institution. Unfortunately, since that time, multiple conflicts and wars have engulfed galactic civilization, the galaxy’s Jedi participating in some form during each event. Whether they have been seen as heroes or villains, as convenient scapegoats or stalwart defenders, it is without a doubt that our lives would be much different without the Jedi Order being part of our history.

Ukase Jar-Vim, a wealthy, retired businessman born and raised on Bespin’s Cloud City, remembers the Jedi’s stay on the planet rather fondly. “When I was just a sproutling, my friends and I would often walk by the Temple, hoping to sneak a peek over the walls. One day when I was alone and trying to spy on their training, I lost my balance and fell off the rampart, only to have one of the Jedi catch me in midair. From then on, I’ve always seen the Order’s presence as a good thing, in spite of the poison that’s been spit from the mouths of politicians throughout time.”

In spite of the Jedi Order continuing to be a controversial organization, Jar-Vim has commissioned a statue to honor the Jedi to be erected adjacent to the Temple’s old grounds, which today houses a popular mall. The statue will, according to Jar-Vim, be made of iron to represent “the durability of Jedi Knights” and will be formed after the vague likeness of the Jedi that rescued him from his fall—a muscle-bound Human male with short, cropped hair.

“I at least hope that the citizens of Cloud City will look upon the figure and remember that we owe much of our livelihood to the sacrifice of Jedi”, says Jar-Vim. “Whether these sacrifices are shown in moments of greatness or in flashes of anonymity, I believe that the Jedi will always be here to keep us churning.”

322.11 // Contaminated Nerf Meat Seized by Planetary Officials

News coming from Olanet in the Hunnoverrs Sector has flustered local health inspectors and law enforcement personnel alike, as reports of an effort to sell contaminated nerf meat have begun to surface.

The reports arose after a whistleblower informed planetary officials of a suspected effort by the Asenti Nurti-Corp to process, package and sell various cuts of nerf meat that had been previously segregated for bioanalysis. According to the whistleblower, the cuts had been withheld based on a peculiar bruising being spotted on the surface of the meats. In spite of this effort, the cuts were repurposed, packaged and stored before inspectors could conduct further tests. Upon hearing this testimony, planetary officials were promptly sent to investigate and seize the shipments, which had fortunately not yet been sent.

Internal examination proved that every specimen of nerf meat, combined to weigh more than two and a half tonnes, was indeed contaminated with a bacterial infestation known to cause crippling, flu-like symptoms in most Human and Near-Human consumers. While no arrests have yet been made and the cause of the contamination and the motive to sell the meat are yet unknown, further investigations have been underway and all nerf meat processing factories of the Asenti Nutri-Corp have been indefinitely halted in their operations. In the meantime, officials have issued a warning to habitants of the Outer Rim to not purchase or consume any nerf meat originating from Olanet as a precaution, causing local economists to worry over the loss of production revenue on top of the present health concerns.

314.13 // Skirmish over Telos

Galactic News correspondents in the Outer Rim Territories are making reports of a skirmish between elements of the Mandalorian military and the Telos Sector Defense Fleet. Telosian Security Forces originally deployed in response to an exchange of turbolaser fire between unidentified vessels operating along the Northern borders of their sector. Upon arrival they discovered a small Mandalorian naval detachment engaged with a group of starships believed to be involved in acts of piracy.

Disregarding commands to withdraw and ignoring warning shots issued from the Telosian fleet, the Mandalorian vessels held their position.  After final calls to surrender, the Mandalorian warships opened fire on the Telosian Security Force before withdrawing back to Mandalorian space.

The Senate has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the escalating problems with the Mandalorians, as well as possible solutions. It is also reported that representatives of the Jedi Order have been called on to assist the Senate in this delicate time.

311.18 // Piracy on the Rise in the Outer Rim Territories

MCQ-mccruiser

Since the conclusion of the war the Republic has been dealing with a sharp rise in piracy across its sectors, especially sectors within the Outer Rim Territories. With a severe economic depression, a downsized navy and military aswell as cut-backs across a number of regional police and security forces, the galaxies black market has thrived, as have smugglers and pirates throughout Republic space.
While the Senate is expected to meet shortly to discuss a means to curb this steady rise in piracy those from the Mid Rim and beyond wish all too well for a swift and sudden end to these steadily increasing illegal actions that are not only disrupting trade and commerce across the outer sectors of the Republic but communications also.
The seeming inaction of the Senate has caused a number of Outer-Rim worlds in recent months to begin to question whether or not to follow the Empire and Hapan examples and secede from the Republic, a government they are apparently beginning to see as no longer being able to take care of its own.
