295.04 // Alderaanian Royal Debate Reaches Impass

Wide-ranging governmental reform on New Alderaaan has reached an impasse following fierce debate over the proposal of reintroducing a monarchy to the planet.

Once a settlement founded by survivors of Alderaan’s destruction in 0ABY, the planet, now with a population of 5 million, has seen a resurrection of old Alderaanian traditions and customs in the past decade, with the monarchy representing the pinnacle of the process. New Alderaan is currently governed by the Alderaanian Council, comprised of more than a hundred elected officials, the future of which is under heavy discussion.

The pro-monarchy movement has a significant following among the New Alderaanian population, but it remains to be decided who, if any, should sit on a New Alderaanian throne. Positioning themselves as candidates are members of the Antilles, Omas, Panteer and Organa families, each commanding a great deal of support among the people.

With the sparse numbers of survivors of Alderaan’s destruction, the legitimacy of these bloodlines has been called into question, particularly that of the Organa family whose link to the original bloodline, Leia Organa-Solo, was in fact adopted.

There is also strong support for those campaigning for an elected monarchy, similar to the former Commonwealth world of Naboo, as well as external intervention from the Galactic Alliance, though opposition to ‘outside meddling’ as it’s been called has been frowned upon.

Of note, leading members of the Panteer family have voiced opposition to GA intervention, holding that, “This is an internal affair, and an important step in re-establishing the sovereignty of Alderaan.”

It remains uncertain if and when a decision on the matter will be made, but this is an issue that the people of New Alderaan will not let go of easily. We will keep you updated as more comes in…

Now, we go over to Runson Tip with the lastest in sports…

“This is Runson Tip, reporting to you live with the GHN news team just outside the Blastech Convention Center here on Coruscant, bringing you the latest updates for this, the four-hundredth annual Galactic Series of Sabacc. I’m standing here with a literal living Corellian Sabacc legend, Getton Antillies. Getton, why don’t you tell us a little about why this event is so important?”

“Well Runson, the Galactic Series of Sabacc is turning four-hundred years old this year, and is making one hell of a comeback by doing so. For the better part of the conflict with the Ascendancy, the event was for the most part ignored, and several years, abandoned all together. Another suitable host planet was found on several occasions, but the fighting was just too much for most of the players to attend. This year we’ve opened up the field to allow for amateur, as well as professionals enter into the field.”

“Speaking of, with all the mixed levels of play, aren’t you….wait, wait, this just in, I’m receiving word that the envoy for the Ascendancy team of players has just made it through customs. There was a lot of speculation about their involvement, particularly so soon after the cease-fire, what’s your take on this Getton?”

“I don’t think the Galactic Alliance has much to worry about at the Convention Center. Ever weary of cheaters, the Board has enlisted the help of Jedi Master’s Phoe Nhix and Eolk Trenthz, to help monitor the event and alert security of any foul play.”

“There’s no concern of any foul play on behalf of the Jedi?”

“None whatsoever, the pot winnings are going towards rebuilding and resuscitation of war-torn families and worlds. There will be a winner, with a prize and notable glory attached, but the focus of this year’s event is on rebuilding relations with war-weary friends and neighbors in the simplest way possible; order up a cold ale and deal another hand of cards!”

“Well said Getton. Getton Antillies here with the Galactic Series of Sabacc, I’m Runson Tip, back to you at the GHN studios.”

Thank you Runson.

That is the lastest for today from us at the GHN, I’m Ular Tenn.

290.22 // Breaking News: Ascendancy Sends Request For Ceasefire!

Reports are coming in and spreading across all communication frequencies, that the official request for a ceasefire has just been received from the Ascendancy’s government in Csaplar, on Csilla. The request states their wish to negotiate terms to ending the War and respectfully ask for a ceasefire, putting an end to what has been a rigorous assault on the lower Chiss Space.

There have been reports of rejoicing on both sides as orders came in for the military to cease all operations and retreat back to their respective military holding. With this, it appears that the seemingly endless and costly War is now coming to it’s inevitable end – and not a moment too soon for all the men and women caught up in these battles.

Sources say that, upon the arrest and capture of the Ascendancy Commander in Chief, the long sought after Rinne’selen’omare was found on the surface of Copero. Additionally, the effects gained by the substantial loss to the Ascendancy fleet in the Southern Territories, and Southern Chiss Space, placed tremendous pressure onto the ruling houses of the Ascendancy hierarchy. However, after the fall of Rhigar due to the joint efforts of the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi Order branch on Coruscant, the decision was made to request a ceasefire and negotiate the terms to ending the War.

Acting Chief-of-State, Admiral Wilkinson, was quick to release the following statement.

“A few days ago, I asked a tremendous amount from all the men and women within our Military but also from across all departments aiding our efforts in the final stages of this War. We have suffered great losses and we have had to endure a greater pain, as the War continued to escalate in severity and intensity. However, I can confirm that today the Ascendancy ruling body has sent contact which requests a ceasefire to end the War and a meeting to negotiate terms. Intelligence suggests this is a legitimate request and we have taken the decision to accept it.

I ask for a little more time of you all now, but I assure you that we will act quickly and decisively to ensure the War is finished and that no further conflict shall continue.

Soon… we will be going home.”

290.21 // Prisoner-of-War Camps Liberated

Jedi strike teams have uncovered Chiss-run prisoner-of-war camps on the Ascendancy world of Sarvchi, after a devastating attack on Ascendancy military operations in the system. Sarvchi, the ancestral home of one of the Chiss ruling families, has been the focus of ongoing military operations in the past cycle. The ground operation, carried out by former members of the Ossus, Ilum and Dantooine branches of the Jedi Order, was intended to drive out the last remaining Chiss military assets but has instead discovered captured Alliance and Commonwealth personnel in high-security labour camps in the planet’s southern region. Reports suggest the camps have been in place for some time – GHN has learned that a number of inmates have been there since before the surrender of the Commonwealth, while eyewitness accounts imply that the camps themselves appear to be purpose-built facilities that predate the current conflict. A Coalition spokesperson has emphasised that all prisoners appear to be in good health, despite the nature of their detention, and will be returned to their homes soon.

290.21 // Alliance Invades Rhigar

A Chiss military academy on Rhigar has been destroyed by a joint Alliance/Jedi military operation, a Coalition spokesperson has announced. The attack, which officially ended at 0430GST on 290.21, is believed to be one of the more costly individual Alliance offensives of the past few years, with an estimated 10,000 Coalition casualties. Acting Chief-of-State Admiral Wilkinson, already facing strong pressure for her risky offensive strategies, defended the assault, stating that “the lives lost are not lost in vain” and has promised to continue military action in the region.

Rhigar, located deep within traditional Ascendancy borders in the Unknown Regions, is believed to be a key stronghold for the Chiss military. With the Rata Nebula and Sarvachi under Coalition control, Ascendancy space is effectively cut in two. Only the worlds of Yashuvhu and Mobus protect the Chiss homeworld of Csilla to the north, while Crustai and Pesfavri remain the critical locations in the southern Ascendancy. It remains unknown how the Chiss military will respond to this new development, or how Admiral Wilkinson and the military will contain the enemy forces on either side of the captured worlds. As always, GHN will have the latest details as they appear.

290.21 // Mandalore Dead!

Breaking News!

Reports of an assault on yet another Jedi Enclave by Mandalorian forces have abruptly ended after, what is being speculated, is the death of the Mandalore.

No detail is available at this time but rumours spreading are saying that he was bested by the Jedi during the assault and killed. Also, the retreat of the Mandalorians from the plantery system has suggested the newly vacant position of Mandalore, has already been assumed by another. There is no word on the standing of the Mandalorians after these transgressions but we have reason to believe that the Mandalorians, will now drop out from the War altogether.

We will endeavour to update you as more detail becomes available to us.
