287.28 // Chief of State Aquitenne Laid to Rest

The skies of Coruscant’s Senate District are briefly still as all traffic is redirected to make way for a funeral procession. The body of the late Caden Aquitenne, Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, was carried through these empty skylanes to the Senate building, where a state funeral was to be held in his honour.
Chief of State Aquitenne was a controversial figure for his role in the banning of the Jedi Order its subsequent repeal when war broke out, as well as his perceived inaction during the early years of the war. Today, however, he was remembered as a man who held his office when few others could. “It is a time of national mourning”, began Senate Speaker Jhon Cales in his speech, during which he gave a low-key account of Aquitenne’s life and career up to the war.

After the traditional twenty-one rifle salute performed by the Senate Guard, the late Chief of State’s body was transported to a waiting shuttle to be returned to his homeworld, where a small family ceremony will take place. With Aquitenne now out of the public eye, all attention remains on the Senate where his successor is expected to be announced in the coming days.

287.23 // Chief Of State Assassinated During Public Speech!

During the public speech set on the world of Brentaal IV, which was broadcasted live across many systems, Chief of State Caden Aquitenne was assassinated in front of millions of viewers and the crowd massed on Breental outside of the Government Center. Many have called to question the security measures in place and the decision to allow the public speech to go ahead in the first place, the Senate back on Coruscant has erupted into a frenzy as the latest blow from the Ascendancy seems to have rocked the very foundation of an Alliance already in turmoil. We had our very own reporter there at the scene…

287.19 // Unrest in CA-Controlled Commonwealth

The planned easing of Chiss military control on occupied worlds has been dealt a serious blow in a fresh wave of rebellion against the Ascendancy’s military leadership. The protests, which began as a series of peaceful demonstrations last week, quickly grew in size thanks to the Ascendancy’s previously relaxed approach to social networking and other HoloNet services over the past year. It is believed that more militant groups have used the protests as cover to coordinate a series of attacks on Ascendancy military emplacements, which have resulted in the death of an undisclosed number of Chiss soldiers and Commonwealth militants.

Major cities on key political centres such as Naboo, Eriadu and Katan Ahk have borne witness to some of the largest armed operations since the Commonwealth’s surrender three years ago. The military response to the uprisings has been swift and merciless, the sound of weapons fire echoing in the streets for hours. In a statement to the press, an Ascendancy official announced a state of martial law would be enforced immediately in order to “ensure the continued safety and security of Ascendancy citizens”.

In past cycles, Ascendancy security patrols have become less frequent as more and more power has been returned to local authorities. This latest development has meant a radical shake up of Chiss policy regarding the occupied territories, with local infrastructure – more or less unchanged since the occupation began – now dissolved and replaced entirely by a military-led government. Personal freedoms have been seriously curtailed; a strict curfew is now in effect and personal transport is banned, with checkpoints and barricades restricting the flow of pedestrians and public transport. Access to social networks such as FriendDirectory and Squawker has been blocked, while the military has reserved a majority of the available HoloNet bandwidth for its own use.

A statement from the Chief of State’s office is expected in the coming hours.

287.17 // Chief of State to Speak at Brentaal

With the all of Dac and the seemingly poor status of the Outer Rim sieges, approval for the War of Attrition is at an all time low. Numbers in some interplanetary polls had the approval numbers of the war falling to around 46%, making it the first time since the start that support for the war has been under 50%.

Chief of State Caden Aquitenne, whose approval ratings are at an all time low himself, has announced that he will be making a public address concerning the war effort at the end of the cycle on Brentaal. According to a spokesperson from his office, there he hopes to unite the hearts and minds of the people of the Alliance in support for their men and women at arms and remind them what we are fighting for.

As many of us have many loved ones whom we will never see again thanks to the war, the Chief of State will really have his work cut out for him. Will our hearts be moved and minds be swayed by the legendary oratory skills that put Aquitenne into office to begin with? Or will this move simply be another failure of his tenure in office? Only time will tell.

287.06 // Coalition High Command to Recommission Rogue Squadron

“I’m with Rogue Squadron. Impossible is our stock in trade, and success is what we deliver.”
-Corran Horn

Courageous, masterful, unstoppable. These are only a few words used to describe the legendary fighting force known as Rogue Squadron.

Rogue Squadron was an elite Rebel Alliance starfighter squadron founded by Commander Arhul Narra, Luke Skywalker, and Wedge Antilles shortly after the Battle of Yavin from pilots who survived the assault on the first Death Star. Following their seemingly impossible victory at Yavin, Rogue Squadron played a key role during several engagements in the Galactic Civil War, serving as the primary defense squadron of the Alliance High Command.

Following the first death of Emperor Palpatine, the Rogues served the New Republic and Galactic Alliance in several critical campaigns, including the Liberation of Coruscant, the hunt for Ysanne Isard, the Yuuzhan Vong War and the Second Galactic Civil War.

Known for taking on missions that were seemingly impossible, throughout its time in existence its name struck fear into the hearts of their enemies, and inspired courage and bravery into the hearts of their allies.

But why does the past acts of the historic fighter squadron matter today?
